IT WAS EXCITING!
I put on some beads and bracelets and a dash of patchouli and headed to the coffeehouse to meet democrats and have rousing discussions!
Coffeehouses hold the tradition of places to meet and talk about ideas, news, politics, and what’s going on. This is where everyone can go, all kinds of people, to talk to all kinds of people. This is how people gathered to launch revolutions. Sometimes. Like the American revolution and the French revolution. They were sitting around in coffee shops, making plans.
I’m not saying we should start a revolution. I’m not saying we shouldn’t start a revolution. What I am talking about is encouraging revolutionary ideas!
Here are some voices of people who were there:
"The true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love." said Che Guevara. I myself am a pacifist revolutionary, they exist, I found the term on the internet.
A few asked is there a meeting? An agenda? No. We are the meeting! Talk amongst yourselves! I did eventually say something to the crowd. Thanks for being here! Here are some things to know about! Sign up as you feel moved! See you at the next coffeehouse!
Here are more voices of people there:
We did this today, the dems here in Eugene had a coffeehouse at Dark Pine Coffee. I thought we should get back to basics and do this. It was organic and alive, active and came into form by people contributing to its shape and sound. We were loud. We filled up the coffee shop.
Democrat grassroots channels my chutzpah.
There were people talking here, and there, and everywhere I looked. We were animated! We were engaged!
A few more voices:
I’m learning that this is a one-person-at-a-time thing. I always thought that sounded like a lot of work. It is, but it’s also pretty fun.
As one person summed up: This is bonding. We’re bonding!
So are we here to bitch about Trump? Is that what we are going to do?! Said one woman in a rather gruff tone. I said no that is not why we are here, but feel free to say what you need to say.
When I held my iPhone up to interview people in the loud coffee shop- they spoke about why they are involved with the Democratic Party. I saw their eyes light up as they talked. I felt the caring come off them as I watched them speak.
This is people being part of the process, asked, listened to right here, right in our town, right on Pearl street.
A lot of people left with more energy, not less energy.
Where is your passion? Mine is with the people. With you!
[I hope you listen to the soundbites, they are great!]
