The poem was perfect for your musings. In the midst of a regime which seems to be all about the Id unleashed, upper-level thinking seems so far away...... but something for which we all yearn.
"I want more elegance, more upper-level thinking, language. Not snobbery, just elevated decency." me too / that's what i find so deeply disturbing about our discourse these days - it's fallen to such a low level
yesterday i was watching 'world news' on PBS and it had a completely different tone from normal news and i thought hey this is great / we can find solutions and build a better world with conversation like this
did you know you can open statistics details and see who's reading your substack ?? i discovered it yesterday and it encouraged me to see everybody who was listening / not commenting but listening
i think i tend to assume nobody hears me but it's not true / pebble in still water and all that / i can only share as much love as i feel inside
I started watching PBS Newshour around 2018 and found it informative and intelligent and non combative, searching for "clicks." They have longer more thoughtful conversations, though today I don't think it is quite as good. With current state of affairs it's nearly impossible to sustain upper level discourse.
I know of a way to see the number of "reads" on my Substack, is that what you mean? It is exciting! I'll run into people who read all my posts and comment to me in person but never do online.
go to posts >> recipients >> view details and it will list all subscribers by email / if they opened it and how many times and any clicks / also if they're paid or free
I haven't seen it! I like to watch Washington Week with the Atlantic on Fridays, though I must say I am tiring of talking heads narrating calmly very destructive, scary stuff.

I agree, the Id is unleashed and it's taking up too much space.

world news came on before the news hour / i had never seen it before

Ooh the bee sting. Hope the discomfort is subsiding.
Yes, it is much better, no longer hot and stinging.
